My octopus teacher
Documentary : My Octopus Teacher
a documentary by Craig Foster, directed by Pippa Ehrlich and James Reed
launched in 2020 by Netflix, 90 minutes
“A lot of people say that an octopus is like an alien,
but the strange thing is that as you get closer to them,
you realise that we are very similar in a lot of ways.”
– Craig Foster
Craig Foster goes free-diving daily and when he first encounters this intriguing little octopus, he decides to keep visiting her every day. His patience, time and perseverance soon pay off as the octopus turns out to be as curious about him, as he feels about her. Slowly but surely they become friends. Being a filmmaker, Craig captures the daily visits and time he spends with his little friend, which results in this wonderful documentary about an incredible friendship.
Trailer of ‘My Octopus Teacher’
My octopus teacher is one of the most touching documentaries I watched in a very long time. It’s fun, interesting and heartwarming and I think everyone should watch it. I think it shows, once and for all, that all life forms on our wonderful planet, no matter their shape or size, are beautiful. I hope this documentary will open up people’s eyes to treat all animals with the love and respect they deserve, even if we know very little about them.
Thanks to both Craig’s and the octopus’ curiosity, courage and willingness to dive into (pun intended ;D) this adventure of becoming friends, we now know so much more about these beautiful, smart and versatile creatures.
